The Hum of Angels

Most of us believe in angels for three main reasons: references in the Bible, experience with angels and Christian art. In the Bible alone, there are over three hundred references to angels. “The Hum of Angels” is filled with hundreds of references from the Bible and real-life stories of people that encountered angels.

Scott McKnight, the author, believes that angels are messengers from God and that angels are active in our world and all around us even when we do not take notice of them. It was fascinating to read that not all angel experiences are the same. Most people see angels as the traditional figure dressed in white. However, other experience angles as human-like figures, a scent of some sort or a bright light.

Angels provide God’s presence by expressing God’s love, confirming God’s presence, and they bring God’s comfort. The many stories were fascinating. Angels provided comfort during death and rescued people. McKnight writes, “That angels are all around us even when we don’t take notice of them. We are wise to believe they surround us, rather than expect them to announce themselves.” They appear when God thinks something special is needed.

One story gave an example of a women that did not listen to the hum of angels. She was scheduled for a cosmetic surgery procedure. She had to keep delaying the time because her baby sitter was late and got a flat tire. The sitter finally arrived over two hours late and she had the procedure. Of course, it went into complications. The angels intercede, but, we must listen to the hum.

The core teaching from the Bible about angels:
God is Love.
All that God does is loving.
God sends angels to us because God loves us.

I recommend this book. It will fill you with hope and love and you will most likely pay attention for the hum of angels.
