6 Questions to Improve Your Self-Esteem

Self-esteem is a reflection of how you think and feel about yourself. My coach says, “Self-esteem is an inside job”. I love that statement. Because it is an inside job we have the ability to change the way we feel about ourselves by examining our belief systems. When life throws us a curve that is when we may feel unhappy and we start judging ourselves harshly. That is the exact moment when we need to boost our self-esteem and confidence. Spend some time answering the “6 Questions to Improve Your Self-Esteem” and the next time you start judging yourself, take your worksheet out to improve your attitude. Remember it is an inside job and you have control over it! One of my “stories” came from my second grade teacher. Boy, I sure held onto this one a long time. She wrote in my report card that I was overly sensitive. For many years, I looked at that as a negative and that was simply a belief. I am sensitive and that is wonderful. My sensitivity allows me to be creative and allows me to trust my intuition. 1. Write the beliefs you learned about yourself when you were young from your:
a. Mother
b. Father
c. Friends
d. Teacher
2. Which of these messages continue to dominate your thoughts today?
3. Which messages support and which messages detract from your confidence and happiness?
4. Are these messages truth or simply a belief?
5. Which messages do you want to change to improve your self-esteem?
6. Write the new thoughts you choose to believe to support your positive self-esteem.

Did you discover some interesting “stories” that you have held onto since childhood? Start today to redo that story with your positive new thoughts. Let those “stories” go. Next time you are feeling down, pull out this sheet and read it. Change takes time and practice. Be gentle with yourself, but, be vigilant about changing those thoughts.
